Odissi is India’s oldest (2nd B.C.E) dance-drama genre of performance art, where the artists and musicians play out a story, a spiritual message or devotional poem from the Hindu texts, using symbolic costumes, body movement, Abhinaya (expressions), and Mudras (gestures and sign language) set out in ancient Sanskrit literature.

The workshop is meant to orient students of dance towards Indian classical dance aesthetics. The workshop is also suitable for those wishing to try out a new vocabulary of technique and storytelling. The uniquely designed workshop also makes it possible for students of all age groups and dance levels to participate and engage in a holistic learning experience.
Interested participants have an option of attending a 1-day workshop and also the complete workshop depending on their time and schedules. The workshop is designed to offer a panoramic experience on each day.
At the end of the Day -1 workshop there will be an Odissi performance by Madhur Gupta & Company at 6 pm that all workshop participants can enter free of charge.
