Most people know that sake can be enjoyed both warm and cold, but do you know why? Or how the right temperature unlocks hidden flavours?

This tasting will take you on a sensory journey from chilled to hot, exploring how temperature changes the aroma, flavour, and texture of different types of sake. You'll find out which ones shine when warm–and which ones lose their sparkle if heated too much.

But temperature isn’t the only game-changer—the drinking vessel matters too! Ever wondered why sake is served in anything from tiny ceramic cups to elegant Western glassware? We’ll show you how different shapes and even materials influence your perception of aroma and flavour.

Join us to bust sake myths and learn the logic behind centuries-old traditions and modern drinking styles, and whether you're new to sake or a seasoned enthusiast, you’ll come away with a deeper understanding of how to serve your sake at its very best!

This English-language workshop includes:
🍶 Side-by-side tastings of warm and cold sake
🔥 Demonstration of how to heat sake easily and effectively
🥂 Experiment with service – glass vs. ceramic vessels and more
💡 Pro tips for choosing the best temperature for your favourite sakes

This is sure to be an eye-opening, palate-awakening experience, so come and warm up

Your hosts

Arline Lyons met and fell in love with sake via her work as a Japanese translator and interpreter, and has worked closely with leading industry figures for nearly a decade. She enjoys guiding people through their journey of discovering sake, its aromas and flavours, and especially its versatility. She is on Instagram as @discoversake (for beginners) and @tastetranslation (for professionals).

Nico Colic was originally a bartender, but has since expanded his interest to everything that smells and tastes. Whisky, perfume, champagne—and, of course, sake. As a long-time student of the Japanese tea ceremony and a certified sake sommelier, I enjoy sharing Japan’s rich culture in an accessible and engaging way.
